Fredrik Sjöholm
Due to the facts that Fredriks dad was a music teacher,singing and playing were a basic element in his home when he grew up. He played the drums in the school orchestra when he was eight years old and there where often new different kinds of instruments to explore.Classical music was something that really took hold on Fredrik, just because of the interest that came with his dad`s choice of work. Fredrik remembers when he took me to a concert where they played Finlandia, by J.Sibelius, and at that moment he was trapped, the epical and powerful music really touched him emotionally and he thinks that moment laid the ground to what his music is based on to day. When Fredrik was fourteen years old, he started to play the drums in his first band ,Tail Wind. At that time he also trained singing to records with vocalists like Rob Halford (Judas Priest) and Bruce Dickinson (Iron Maiden). After a while he found out how to use the high pitch tecnique and one year later he sold his lousy drums and became the new vocalist in the band. In fact, he planned to be a guitar player in the first place but could not afford the equipment and then when the guys convinced him to sing so...what could he do? Because of the new lineup they also canged the name from Tail Wind to Dark Pride, but after two years and studies in another part of the country the band split. In 1986 he started to know Thomas, who was a friend of his sister. They talked about to do something together sometime and finally in the spring -87 Thomas asked Fredrik to join a band with his brother,Torbjörn, and a friend of theirs. The same year he moved to Stockholm and the band Glorify was born. That became the beginning of the story about Veni Domine and what it is to day.
Gabriel
Gabriel Ingemarson has played bass with Veni Domine since December 1996. He was an old friend of the band, and he had always liked their music. So when Torbjörn Weinesjö asked him to join, he didn't need much time to think. At the time when Gabriel began playing with the band, the time schedule for the new album "Spiritual Wasteland" looked tight. It was hectic period with a lot of studio sessions. Before he had even rehearsed with the band, he had to go into the studio to lay the bass track for "Dawn Of Time".
Gabriel's musical career started early. When he was about five, one of his favorite hobbies was to make his own drums of empty tin cans with pieces of an old shower curtain as drum skins. At that time his mother also taught him to play some piano. At the age of nine, Gabriel got a trumpet from his grandparents. He played the trumpet for about four years. Playing the trumpet was very good in terms of learning the fundamentals of music, but he was not quite happy anyway. There was no chance he could really play rock music on it...
When Gabriel was about eleven years of age, he managed to persuade his parents to give him a drum kit. Together with some friends he started a band. This band had one guitar player, one drummer and two (!) keyboard players. You can imagine that it wasn't very heavy music they played... The band didn't know anyone who played bass, but they knew a drummer. So at the age of 13 Gabriel decided to switch to the bass. He bought a cheap Fender Precision-copy and started practicing. Bass is since then his main instrument, although he has never quit drumming on the dinner table. Much to his family’s demise.
Over the years, Gabriel has played in a number of different bands. In the beginning he was pretty much focused on hard rock, but later he became more jazz-, fusion-, soul- and gospeloriented. The variety is important, Gabriel believes. You become rich as a musician if you can handle different styles in different situations. Gabriel loves groovy music like Sly & The Family Stone, Earth Wind & Fire and The Brand New Heavies. That kind of music just makes you want to move! But nothing has the same power and energy as hard rock! Among Gabriel's favorites are bands like King’s X, Deep Purple and Jerusalem.
Torbjörns
Torbjörn Weinesjö, born in Stockholm on the 10th of January 1970, began his musical career at the age of seven. Pots and coffee jars were the victims of his first stumbling steps. Playing to the reords of Jerusalem and Roland Utbult, he started to develop a feeling for heavier music. He started his first band at eight, actually "playing" one of his father’s acoustic guitars. There was already a boy who was pretty good with the coffee jars. The band performed sometimes several days a week at school. Torbjörn and his brother Thomas got their first drum kit a couple of years later and tortured their neighbors whenever the time felt right. A side track to the rock’n’roll emerged when Torbjörn started to play the trumpet at the age of nine. His neighbours would probably not complain about him not being very dedicated to practice. Still, he played the trumpet for several years in the brass orchesta in church. At the age of 14 though, Torbjörn concluded that it was probably more cool to play the guitar and when his band decided to start anew, he announced that he was not going to be the drummer anymore. So, with a borrowed guitar and amp he started to play.
Since Torbjörn was a rookie, he claimed it would be better for the old guitar player to do most of the chord playing while Torbjörn would do the solos. Torbjörn only knew a few chords. The rigg at that time was a Guyatone Mosrite clone and a Piggy amp on batteries. Already an electronic freak, he found out that playing with old batteries would bring out a dirty sound he thought was called distortion. A little later he purchased his first stompbox, a Vesta fire distortion, which proved he was wrong thinking he would never experience heaven on earth. Little did he know. This far, the bands responsible for influencing Torbjörn were the likes of Jerusalem, Kiss (Ace Frehley), Rainbow (Ritchie Blackmoore), Toto (Steve Lukather), Lee Ritenour, Rick Springfield, Saga etc.
In the meantime, Torbjörn started to look for a Christian band to join, since he would like the company of others sharing the same beliefs. He joined a band called the Disciples and now with a Yamaha guitar and Yamaha amp, he really began to get his vision clear.
Disciples had their own light rigg and light engineer and with fresh printed posters he felt like a rockstar, playing a pink Ibanez and a Swedish built controller amp (used on Fall Babylon Fall). The band did several shows in different churches in the Stockholm area. They also recorded a couple of demos, but the Disciples did not survive.
Bass player Anders Olofsson and Torbjörn joined up with brother Thomas and formed "Glorify", which marked the beginning of Veni Domine.
