The Bronx is a rough area of New York, a fact perhaps due to its being the only borough that is not an island, as well as being home to the Yankee Stadium. It is also the place where the three Dominican American members that make up the group Bachata Unique grew up, while new trends in Salsa and Hip Hop were developing over the last 20 years.
Bachata runs through their veins and their love for music was cultivated at home with the familiar sound of the radio. Jay, for example, had been anxious to write since school, writing poems to achieve his first goal - winning the hearts of third-grade girls, which he did. As for Darío, he grew up in Lower Manhattan listening to Michael Jackson and making progress as a musician, learning to play the drums and the guira while entertaining his friends with his singing. And since he was five, D'Lesly’s idea of fun was playing the piano, a legacy of his father, veteran musical orchestra musician Wilfredo Lora, better known in New York as "Chiqui Bajo."
One day on his way to school D'Lesly met Jay in a CD store, and they agreed to go straight to his house and write the first single "No tengo Amor," a song of which they have been especially fond since the beginning of their musical career in 2002, when groups such as Aventura were opening up room on the play lists of New York radio stations. Together with the song "Me Rechaza," they have now become the first two singles to be broadcast in the United States from their album "What's Good", composed of 10 heart-felt songs.
D’Lesly acts as the group’s creative leader and the other members pay attention to his ideas and respect what he says; projects are realized using digital programs as he sees fit.
Bachata Unique's first album for Machete Music of the Universal Music Latin Entertainmnet Group marks the first step towards realizing their big dream: “New rhythms can still be fused together and we attract the fans with our touch. Half of my dream was to sign with a major record label, and the other half to bring our music to every corner of the world." Jay.
Darío doesn't think it was hard to find a place among the new bachata thanks to the group's “flow” and chemistry, which has been influenced by the rhythms that have most surrounded them: R&B, Soul and Hip Hop. Worth noting are also the contributions of: Andrés "Dre" Hidalgo (Manager, Producer,)Alex "Chi" Caba (Guitarist, Co-Producer) and Jorge Made (Executive Producer). The single "No tengo amor" is his personal testimony of a difficult relationship in which he attempts to win over a friend and suffers because of her, while she wants to keep him as a friend, ignoring his feelings.
They have set out on a bold adventure with their own music and style, as unique as their favorite food, despite having grown up in the Bronx. Jay, for example, loves fritura dominicana - fried plantains with salami. For Darío, it's rice and beans, chicken breast and salad prepared by his grandma. On the other hand, D'Lesly wouldn't trade New York Style pizza for anything. The young group Bachata Unique has given small performances in Texas, the West Coast and Midwestern cities. And they stress their desire to bring their live music, with the musical ambition of their first production, to countries such as that of their ancestors, the Dominican Republic, as well as to Brazil and Colombia in South America.
