The Ugly Americans formed in Austin, Texas in 1993, when six working musiciansmet at a local jam night and began planning a funky blues-rock band. The sextet became popular regional act and earned a spot on 1994's H.O.R.D.E. tour. Aself-titled 1995 live album on What Are Records? and opening spots for the Dave Matthews Band and Big Head Todd and the Monsters expanded the group's following,leading to a contract with major-label affiliate Capricorn Records. Their Capricorn debut,Stereophonic Spanish Fly, was released in 1996.
