"So that's what you've been doing in your room all these years..." -Mom

I think I was 15 when I picked up a guitar. I heard an Ani Difranco tape and that was all it took. I wanted to learn how to play her stuff, my only problem, I had no idea how to play guitar. Slowly I learned, playing whatever sounded good, developing a percussive style of playing. Somewhere in there I met a boy, he was nothing but trouble, he gave me more than enough to write about. A couple months later I almost lost one of my best friends to a cocaine addiction. Needless to say, I had a lot of fuel for the fire. The next thing I knew I was singing my songs and people were actually listening.

A couple months later one of my songs "anything at all" was used on the soundtrack to a surf movie called Shelter. I wrote "anything at all" in the time span it took me to record it on the mini-disc player, literally making it up right then and there. I guess it was time for the song to be written, that kind of thing happens a lot.

For the most part I stumbled upon this singer/songwriter thing. I never expected the reaction I get from people when they hear my music. They discover it and they like it. Here I am, just doing my thing, going surfing, playing guitar, sounds so typically southern California doesn't it?

When I first started playing music, I asked god every day if this is what I was supposed to be doing, and if not then to please point me in another direction. There have been so many things that have happened in the last year though, id be stupid not to realize that this is my gift, this is my passion, this my love, this is who I am and I feel fortunate to have found it at my age(21).

And so the story goes, I decided to go for it, with the help of so many people that seem to know all the "right" people, I'm doing pretty good. I work 2 days a week, from 6 am to 12 pm at a little coffee stand. I keep my afternoons open to surf with my parents and write songs by candlelight at night.

I got my friend, who got me in the surf video, to be my manager. Went on tour with Jason Mraz in March 2003, recently opened for John Mellencamp at The Joint in Las Vegas, recorded my own EP, they even play it on the radio! and I still manage to surf just about everyday, sometimes twice :)
