Throne Of Chaos was started sometime in 1996 with a different line-up. The first demo, "Equilibrium" was released in the fall of 1996 and it sold approximately 300 copies, much to the bands’ surprise. After the release of the aforementioned demo, Throne Of Chaos gave the boot to their synthplayer and operated as a four-piece for about a year. A replacement was found and the band released a mini-cd, "Fata Morgana", which gained positive response from both the public and press. In the spring of 1999 Throne Of Chaos recorded a new demo which was never released. This demo finally landed the band with a deal and the debut album, "Menace And Prayer" was recorded in September-October 1999. Spikefarm was, once again, alert and grabbed the band immediately. “Menace And Prayer” was released in the beginning of 2000. The band was later on signed to Spinefarm Records. Throne of Chaos started writing new material right after the release of the album. The drummer, Teemu Laitinen joined Thy Serpent in late 2000. Throne of Chaos played a few shows but were forced to take a hiatus from serious writing, thanks to the Finnish Army.
After the guys had done their duty, the band entered the famed Studio Fredman in January 2002 to record the long-anticipated follow-up to “Menace And Prayer”. This time around the entire band has participated a lot more in the writing process, as opposed to Taneli (Kiljunen, guitar) writing all the material. The band also took a new perspective into writing songs, concentrating on a more focused approach and incorporating even a wider spectrum of influences into their sound. The vocal delivery on “Pervertigo” is nothing short of stunning, as the band took advantage of the talent of Niklas Isfeldt (Dream Evil) as well as Pasi Nykänen. The band found Pasi after a show hanging out backstage, discovered that they had something in common and soon recruited him to play a show with them. Afterwards, seeing that he was a capable frontman, it was decided that he should take over the vocals as Taneli wanted to concentrate on playing guitar. At the time being, both Pasi and Niklas are basically session members.
The music found on “Pervertigo” could be described as fast and furious death/black but with a more traditional heavy metal twist to it than your average contemporary metal band. Their heavy metal leanings and sense of melody definitely give their unrelenting metal a kind of space to breathe that many bands lack. In other words, “Pervertigo” is the perfect amalgamation of melody and massacre.
When these boys play, we’re NOT talking Toto here.
