Thorns is a Norwegian black metal band thar was formed in 1989 by Snorre W. Ruch, Marius Vold and Bård "Faust" Eithun under the name Stigma Diabolicum. After having performed live a few times and released a demo tape they changed their name to Thorns. In 1991 they released two legendary demo tapes. Several well known musicians from the Norwegian black metal scene participated on these recordings. At the time of the second demo members started leaving the band and Snorre continued Thorns as a solo project. The band was then put on ice for several years since Snorre was convicted to 8 years in jail as an accessory to murder following the killing of Euronymous (Mayhem) by Varg Vikernes (Burzum). In 1999 he returned with a split CD together with Emperor which was released on Moonfog Productions, run by Satyr of Satyricon. The self-titled debut album in 2001 featured Hellhammer from Mayhem, Satyr from Satyricon and Aldrahn from DHG. Snorre was also involved as a sound engineer on Satyricon's album "Rebel Extravaganza" which was released in 1999.
