Danny Smith, from Pickering, Ontario, Canada, had been writing and recording songs at home on a 4-track for years before he landed a leading role on the TV show Big Wolf On Campus (he is also an actor who has appeared in numerous films and other television shows). He wrote and performed the theme song for Big Wolf, which was the very first time he stepped into a professional recording studio.
Danny used the money he had earned from the first season of Big Wolf to record a 12-song album titled Not Now and Not Later. This album featured beautiful backing vocals by Lisa Loeb, which were recorded in the world-famous Capitol Records building in Los Angeles.
While still on hiatus, he shopped the record around Los Angeles and met with all of the major labels. He also rounded up an awesome band of musicians and played a handful of shows.
Also during this time, he landed a publishing deal with Famous Music and found representation with an attorney at Davis, Shapiro, Lewit, Montone & Hayes. However, just as things were heating up he had to return Montreal for the second season of Big Wolf.
After the second season, Danny and some musicians flew to Memphis, Tennessee to record 3 songs in the legendary Sun Studio (home to Elvis and U2's Rattle and Hum). It was an amazing and inspiring trip, but soon he had to return to Canada once again to shoot the final season of his television show.
Once Big Wolf's run had come to an end (3 seasons, 65 episodes) Danny got his Greencard and officially moved to Los Angeles. Here, he started a brand new band and during their first year together they played shows around Orange County and recorded 8 new songs. Five of those songs were produced by Chris Fudurich (Finch, Rx Bandits, Nada Surf, Ozma) and 2 of them featured backing vocals by the amazing Rachel Haden of the now-defunct band That Dog (she also sang on Jimmy Eat World's Bleed American and has worked with Weezer and Beck).
Today, THE CITY DRIVE is continuing to gain popularity with fans and record labels alike. Right now, they are rehearsing for upcoming shows and another recording session. Stay tuned…
