The Casket Lottery

As of now, I'm going to tell the story of when and how, and sometime later, this will all seem different, as it did then. The very early Casket Lottery shows were quite horrible. And back then we all knew it, but we also knew we had potential of tightening things up enough to not be embarassed after every show. Stacey, the bassist, seemed to not be to sure of his role in music anymore, and needed some reassurance. He found that with Nathan Ellis, and Richardson and secured his spot and made the final puzzle piece no longer a mystery. After that, and after a short (horribly unprepared, mind you) tour with our friends Midvale, The Casket Lottery decided to take a stab at being a real band. After months and months of shows, some really bad, and some on the verge of being great, there happened to be a big show in Kansas City that the Casket Lottery was lucky enough to have a spot on. Seth of Status Recordings was out in KC visiting some dorky kid at the time and happened to witness the Casket Lottery's judgment day show. The show was great. Seth offered to do a 4 song EP and after many shitty recording dilemma's "Dot Dot Dash Something Or Other Dot" was recorded by Ed Rose at Red House in the spring of 99. After that the Casket Lottery's popularity snowballed, with many shows, east and west coast tours, midwest trips, and the release of the Reflector split 7" on Undecided Records out of Florida. The band also, not too much later, released the debut full length CD/LP "Choose Bronze" on Second Nature records. The record is patched up with some songs that were written just to fill up enough time to play a show, but overall, they are proud of the release. But its time to move on. The Casket Lottery had their "Moving Mountains" CD/LP realeased in April on Second Nature records, just after the split 7" with Waxwing. Also look for a song to be released on the Streetcar Music compilation dedicated to heroes, and tour dates galore. Their most recent release is the "Lost At Sea" 7" on Status Recordings and the Mailo rder only, 1 time pressing release "Blessed / Cursed" CDep. This band works too hard but thats why we love them so much. They need to rest...go to sleep Nate, Stacy and Junior.
