As a rule, a lot of bands, after getting together and saying ‘we should start a band!' there's a big period of practicing and getting to know each other as musicians. Stories and Comets didn't follow this rule at all. After only 6 practices they recorded a 3 track demo CD and got the ball hurtling toward their goals.
Formed from members of underground post hardcore heroes My Favourite Co-Pilot & Caught In The Headlights, the line up of John Hoy-Taylor (bass, vocals), Dan Osborne (drums) & Phil Maughan (guitar vocals) soon caught the attention of Deck Cheese records. The band joined the roster in December 03. The 3 track demo they recorded around this time that earned them their deal caught the ear of Radio 1's ‘The Lock Up' presenter Mike Davies who played it regularly on his show & then invited them to record a session at London's prestigious Maida Vale studios for broadcast. They were the first band do so without a release commercially available.
The next step was to hit the road, in February they headed across the UK with Not Katies then soon after with ex Grade crew Somehow Hollow from Canada . Then in May Stories and Comets entered their local studio in Middlesborough with engineer Nathan Stephenson behind the desk to record their debut ‘Time To Write You Out'. This was subsequently mastered at West West Side in New Jersey , USA by the same people who master Poison The Well, Brand New and The Hope Conspiracy, amongst other genre luminaries. These 10 tracks of blistering, beautiful & intense post hardcore are the product of one the UK 's hottest new bands and will soon have their name uttered without falter in the same breath as Thursday or Poison The Well.
