Sirius is a portoguese symphonic Black Metal band. The band was started by Draconiis in 1994 and released a demo in 1998. They got signed on Nocturnal Art, and their debut, Aeons Of Magick, is almost a copy of Emperor's In The Nightside Eclipse.
Their blast beat Black Metal is quite symphonic and has a lot of great mid-tempo parts. The Synth-symphonies are quite pompous and majestic, and at times they have a certain Soundtrack-feel. There's extensive Synth-playing going through almost the whole album as well as two clean Synth instrumentals, "The Stargate" and "Beyond The Scarlet Horizon". Theese vary from atmospheric tones and piano to majestic and pompous symphonies. It's impossible to choose favourite tracks, as the whole album keeps an even level of quality, however I really like the start of "Travellers Of The Stellar Ocean" as well as "Aeons Of Magick", at least parts of it. However all the compositions are very strong, so I might have a new favourite in a week or so...
The first time I heard Sirius, they were too intense for me, but the second time I was totally blown away! The songs are great, though they aren't revolutionary. The symphonies are brilliant and so is the production (Recorded at Exilium Lynx, Mixed at Akkerhaugen Lydstudio, Mastered at Strype Audio). Basicly, Sirius have copied Emperor's In The Nightside Eclipse and given it their own feel with more synth and more variation both in vocal-use and songs. If you like Emperor's aforementioned album, you'll like this too!
