SELF is one of the new hardcore bands from Denmark. SELF hail from the westcoast area of Denmark, and consists of four experienced musicians. The band was formed because all members are fans of no-bullshit-oldschool hardcore. The members got together because they are old friends and because they have one goal: To play straight and aggressive in-your-face hardcore. All members has played in different bands before forming SELF. They all have experience from different styles such as thrash, punk and metal. Anyway the love to all the honest and straight hardcore bands always has been strong. Therefore it's also naturally that influences is found in the american old-school hardcore scene and especially in bands like Agnostic Front, Sick Of It All, Slapshot, Madball and Biohazard. With the influence from the classic hardcore style SELF has found their own sound and are now part of the fast growing European hardcore scene, which also count such popular bands as Hard Resistance, Rykers, 59 Times The Pain, Out For Blood, Deviate, Nihao, Adjudgement, Backfire, Racial Abuse and many more.
In the autumn of '97 SELF signed to Belgian hardcore label I Scream Records. The label are going to release the debutalbum of SELF, titled "The Sinister Urge". Using the title "The Sinister Urge" (borrowed from an old Ed Wood B-movie) SELF wanna show that they are not just another hardcore band. Like b-movie director Ed Wood - SELF is going their own ways. They are alternative and a new experience in old-school hardcore sound of the nineties. "The Sinister Urge" also is a title used to pack all the lyrics into one message, describing how the members of SELF see the world and society today. The album consists of 13 in-your-face songs. The songs are straight, raw and pure intense energy and the production is as massive and hard as a concrete wall. To keep the spontanious energy, the album was recorded in only four days with Jacob Hansen (formerly guitarist/singer in Danish thrash band Invocator) producing and mixing.
SELF is: Rune Hansen (voice), Robert Christensen (bass), Peter Larsen (drums) and Jakob Schultz (guitar).
