The current members of TOFOG are: Garth Adam (vocals, bass) Dean Cochran (vocals, guitar) Russell Crowe (vocals, guitar) Dave Kelly (vocals, drums) Stewart Kirwan (vocals, horns) Dave Wilkins (vocals, guitar)
The evolution of 30 Odd Foot of Grunts (TOFOG) began in the early 1980's. Russell's first band was the Interrogatives, which he formed in high school. He later formed Russ le Roq and the Romantics. Russ le Roq was a stage name he received during a stint on the stage production of The Rocky Horror Picture Show. Russell met Dean in 1984, and together they formed Roman Antix. They released their first single in 1987, what's the difference.
Garth met Dean in 1986, when he decided to form his own band. That band was Acid Splash. Garth met Dave Kelly in the early 1990's. They formed a band fronted by Penthouse Pets. Later, Garth, Dave Kelly, Russell, Dean and Don Brown formed the earliest version of TOFOG. Dave Kelly was the band's photographer. He later became the drummer after Don Brown moved on.
Stewart Kirwan and Dave Wilkins joined TOFOG in 1998. Stewart joined because Russell needed a trumpet player for Circus. Dave Wilkins joined as a guitarist and backing vocalist. Stewart has been a few bands, including Midnight Oil. His most recent endeavor is Cracksquad. Dave Wilkins has been in a few bands, including Utopian Babies. His most recent endeavor is Dave Wilkins Band (DWB). Garth is also the co-founder of Ether. Garth formed this band with two of his friends, Paul and Glen.
How did TOFOG get its name? Answer One: They took all six members and laid them out - head to toe - and measured them. This came up to 30 odd feet. Grunting is generally considered a male sound (and they're all men). Enough said. Answer Two: Russell came up with the name while filming Virtuosity. He had to grunt and groan a lot, and they made a tape of it. Russell's grunts added up to 30 odd feet.
