At first glance, Rob Blackledge may seem like a typical singer/songwriter, but to dismiss him lightly would be a mistake. This talented twenty-four-year-old is not only a musical force to be reckoned with, but he's also both ambitious and personable. Although driven to succeed as an independent artist, his main goal is never to let his success get in the way of relating to people.
Originally from Mississippi, this Nashville musician and Belmont graduate has spent the last several years developing his musical prowess. His music appears to fit the mold of intelligently crafted pop songs along the lines of James Taylor and Guster, but he breaks out of the box with his driving melodies, charismatic vocals, and refreshingly jazz-influenced tunes. His songs are clever and intricate with enough soul to keep you listening to his smooth, yet powerful voice. One of Rob's most notable qualities is the ability to connect with people by writing relevant and engaging lyrics.
While in college Rob recorded his first studio album (A Step In the Dark, EP) and played shows with acclaimed independent artists such as Dave Barnes, Jon McLaughlin, Andy Davis and Matt Wertz. He has been touring a since the May 2005 and in 2006 released his second studio record, A Song Like This. From 2004 to 2005, Rob won Best Pop/Rock Performer and Best Writer in a series of competitions at Belmont University, performing showcases for over 2000 students and music business representatives. He is currently the only Belmont student to win showcases in two categories.
His shows are both energetic and intimate, genuine and entertaining; audiences will not leave disappointed. Though he can rock with the best on stage, Rob Blackledge will be the guy in a t-shirt and jeans, talking to people right up until showtime. And chances are thats exactly where he'll be afterward, too.
