3 years, 300+ shows, and two award-winning albums to his credit, New Jersey-based singer/songwriter Quincy Mumford arrives at the release of his third album, “Speak” with a distinctive, polished musical style all his own.
“What I’ve been focusing on lately, both in the studio and on stage,” Quincy explains, “is highlighting the overall groove that has been building in my music since day one. Whether I’m combining pop, funk, reggae, or surf influences, I want the whole thing to make sense as one recognizable style. Some of my favorite bands ALO, G.Love, Sublime do that really well. I’ve been working really hard at it and I think it’s all coming together on this new record. It’s exciting, upbeat music, and I can’t wait for people to hear it.”
“Speak” opens with “Rally,” a hard-hitting sing-along that features a clean, clear musical arrangement and a motivational message to live life boldly and rally around those you believe in. Another notable track, “Home,” is Quincy’s most potent tune to date — a patriotic plea to bring our troops back home (“I pledge my allegiance/I still hope for freedom/I believe in a peaceful country.”).
In addition to his evolution in the studio, Quincy and his live band, The Reason Why, are excited to maintain their tireless performance schedule, which has found them sharing the stage with Ryan Montbleau, Debbie Harry, moe., Donovan Frankenreiter, and Zach Deputy, among many others. The band is looking to continue building this live momentum, whether they’re returning to The Gathering of the Vibes or Musikfest, supporting a band on a national tour, letting loose at hometown gigs, or volunteering their time for The Surfrider Foundation, and/or other environmental causes that Quincy and the band hold close to their collective hearts.
Optimistic, charismatic, and undeniably genuine, Quincy’s music possesses the same “feel good” attitude that the young man himself does. When all is said and done, a focused, inspired Quincy Mumford is an artist to watch in 2011.
