Oxide & Neutrino

‘Stop the jealousy/What 'cos we didn't start in 1983? Oh fuck me I was in my nappy/Did I mention I was only 18?’ Oxide & Neutrino, ‘Up Middle Finger’

Oxide & Neutrino release their new single ‘Up Middle Finger’ through eastwest Records on May 14. A personal response to the old guard who black listed their first single ‘Bound 4 Da Reload (Casualty)’ at the Notting Hill Carnival, the track is taken from their forthcoming debut album Execute, set for release May 28. The single is available on two CDs and cassette, and features the exclusive non album track ‘Push Me 2 Hard’, and from the album ‘Back 2 Da Floor’.

Alongside the forthcoming single ‘Up Middle Finger’, Execute features Oxide & Neutrino’s two previous hit singles ‘No Good 4 Me’ and ‘Bound 4 Da Reload (Casualty)’, as well as several guest appearances from their musical family, South London’s So Solid Crew. Bristling with roughneck energy and attitude throughout, it’s a sound borne not from VIP rooms and champagne but from no frill raves and pirates. Check ‘Only Wanna Know U Cos Ure Famous’, in which Neutrino makes a witty dig at long lost ‘friends’ who suddenly want to meet up. If you’re expecting more big samples or novelty tunes, forget it. Most of the sounds have been recorded in the studio. ‘Devil’s Nightmare’ features Oxide creating an unearthly Omen like choir, and there’s the bassbin-rumbling dancefloor monsters such as ‘Foot To The Floor’ and the title track. This is thrill-seeking, bass-line driven, dance music at it’s best.

Both aged nineteen, DJ Oxide & MC Neutrino’s background lies with the 19-piece collective So Solid Crew and the pirate station Delight FM. In the summer of 2000, the duo scored a massive hit with their infamous pirate track, ‘Bound 4 Da Reload (Casualty)’. Prior to its commercial release, the single managed to sell in excess of 20,000 copies on white label. It then went on to top the UK singles chart without mainstream radio or TV support, or label hype. Their second single, the Prodigy-sampling ‘No Good 4 Me’, confirmed their status, going Top 10 Christmas week. Aside from their singles, in 2000 the duo also released an acclaimed mix album, The Solid Sound Of The Underground, which featured tracks by the likes of DJ Dee Kline, Zed Bias and Second Protocol.
