Orphaned Land

Orphaned Land was formed in 1991 under the name "Resurrection" and in 1992 was changed to it's current name. During the years 1992 - 1993 the band has performed with some important artists, among them were Cathedral and Tiamat. In 1993 the band recorded it's first release, "The Beloved's Cry" demo, that gained extreme success worldwide. In a short time period 1,500 copies of this debut were quickly sold out (no trades), and in 1999 the Greek Magazine "Metal Invader" re-issued this release on CD in close to 15,000 copies!

After the huge success of their demo, the band was signed by French label "Holy Records" for two albums. First album, "Sahara", was issued in 1994. The second title "El Norra Alila" was issued in 1996. Both albums achieved great responses and were sold in douzens of copies! The albums were sold good even in countries like Poland and Turkey, which sold more than 1,000 copies each, plus a license to Malaysia has been made as well, this license made the Orphaned Land's albums enter places in the Middle East like: Lebanon, Syria, Jordan, Egypt, Dubay and more... There is a very strong fan base in this countries and all this on top of the "fakes" that were made to the albums, mainly in East Europe.

Orphaned Land appeared in many collections and tributes, among them were English "Terrorizer", German "Hard Rock", French "Mettalian", Polish "Mystic", "Holy Records", "Believe In The Holy Rules" and "Holy Bible Vol I + II", "Tales of Apocalipse", "Israheller", Century Media Records' "Darkness We Feel" and lately Orphaned Land appeared in Nuclear Blast's "Metal Dreams Vol.3"...

The "Paradise Lost" tribute "As We Die For... Paradise Lost" featured a cover for the song "Mercy" by Orphaned Land. Paradise Lost's lead guitarist and composer voted it to be the best track in the CD! In 1997, with the success of the two albums, Orphaned Land got offers from several major labels, among them were Nuclear Blast, Metal Blade and Century Media, and at last the band signed with Century Media Records.
