In 2007, after years of playing in bands through middle school and high school, singer + guitarist Jake Scherer decided to pursue music seriously as a career and thus the foundation of the Alternative-Rock outfit New Medicine was laid in Minneapolis, Minnesota USA, by Scherer and guitarist Dan Garland. The two decided to record a song written by the frontman, but Scherer wanted a full band. So he sought out his high school buddy Matt Brady for bass and drummer Ryan Guanzon. Immediately, New Medicine cultivated a following in Minneapolis as they constantly composed new material. With more than 100 songs in their arsenal, the band caught the attention of Photo Finish Records/Atlantic and joined the label's roster in summer 2009.
The group then entered the studio and recorded their first album "Race You To The Bottom"; the resulting effort showcased a hard sound with a positive slant. The 11-song set was released in September 2010; it includes the Active Rock top 50 hit "Laid".
