TOM BAILEY – VOCALS, BASS SHANNON MCMURRAY – GUITAR JAY SKOWRONEK – DRUMS
Based in Los Angeles, CA – MAXEEN: creates music that is reminiscent of such legends as The Police, The Pixies and Afghan Wings, but still have very much their own original sound. MAXEEN:’s roots range from Akron, OH, to Connecticut to Southern California where the band came together 2002. MAXEEN: has since signed to Los Angeles based independent SIDEONEDUMMY Records and their debut release is due to hit the streets in the summer of ’03.
The MAXEEN: story began in Akron, OH, where Tom Bailey (vocals, bass) spent his wonder years hanging out in his father’s recording studio and spending countless hours documenting first kisses and fatal break-ups that would help to shape his musical future. After playing in bands in his hometown and receiving an overwhelming response, Tom felt it was time to further explore his musical horizons and left home for Southern California where he would soon cross paths with the other members of the band that eventually became MAXEEN:.
Enter Jay Skowronek (drums), originally from Connecticut -- after finishing a film degree at a college in Boston, Jay made his way across the heartland with musical aspirations. Landing in North Hollywood, CA, Jay found himself in the trenches of the LA music scene.
Originally from Southern California, Shannon McMurray (guitar) had been playing in local bands since he was 15 years old and after losing yet another drummer in his last band, Shannon found Jay alive and well in the fine print of a musician wanted ad. The two of them met and had an immediate musical connection.
Shannon and Jay started to hear rumors about a Long Beach-based singer named Tom Bailey and took a trek down to the Prospector Club to see for themselves what the buzz was all about. Tom’s talent and presence was undeniable and they knew they had found the singer they had been waiting for. The three’s desire to start a new project led them to meet in a rehearsal space in the summer of 2002. The connection was immediate and the three-piece band called MAXEEN: was born. The music that came out the night was powerful, graceful and true and the band still continues to evolve.
