Matthew Gowan

Matthew Gowan (born May 2, 1970) is the lead vocalist and guitarist for Canadian progressive rock band White Cardinal. He formed the band in 1988 during his last year in High School. The band released their first album, Full Length Premiere, in 1993 on an independent label. In 1995, they signed with major label Atlantic Records. The band's next album, a self titled effort released in 1996, had success with the song "Dead Orchid". 1998's Between Seeing and Believing debuted at #4 in Canada and had a number of hits.

After touring in support of 2001's Blank Odyssey, White Cardinal took a hiatus, and Matthew began work on a solo album. The album, which was recorded and produced with former Our Lady Peace guitarist Mike Turner, was released in March of 2003. White Cardinal returned to the studio in 2004 and released their 5th studio album in 2005.

Matthew began work on a second release in late 2007. The album, titled Vacuous, was released on June 8, 2008. It was produced with Mike Turner, also handling the guitar duties once again. The first single, "The Future Won't Wait" was a successful hit in Canada.

In Fall of 2008, White Cardinal will begin work on a new album.
