Matt Nathanson was born at Beth Israel Hospital in Boston, MA on March 28, 1973. Since picking up a guitar at the age of 6, Matt knew he wanted to be a musician. His strong, sincere lyrics and inspired musicianship have led many people to become die-hard fans after only a listen. His charm and sincerity in person, as well as his energetic and often humorous live shows have also endeared many a listener to his unique blend of acoustic folk and rock 'n' roll attitude.
Raised in Lexington, MA, he attended Proctor Academy in Andover, NH as a highschooler, and later moved to beautiful Claremont, CA to attend Pitzer College. During high school, Matt was involved in the school's jazz band, and also appeared in the school talent show. While in high school, Matt formed a band with a few close friends, and they performed mostly original songs along with a few U2 covers, during the time Matt refers to as his "fluffy mullet period." Definitely bound for greatness, even at a young age.
During his time at college, Matt continued to expand his musical prowess, recording his first album, Please, when he was just a freshman at age 19, in 1993. He also met his good friend Jonah from the band One Line Drawing, and the two of them became sort of the school troubadors.
Matt now lives in San Francisco, CA, with his wife Bridget.
