The girl next door, only louder ... Sony BMG recording artist Mandi Perkins is an intensely passionate and charismatic singer and songwriter who creates uncompromising melodic rock. Already a huge favorite among MySpace tastemakers (whose 100,000+ friends have given her songs more than 4.5 million plays) Mandi's lyrics are known for their brutal truth and honesty and she writes and sings about her life and the lives of those around her with an empathy that challenges listeners to experience her music on a deep emotional level.
Born and raised in Toronto, Mandi began writing and performing at a young age. Her ambitions inspired a move to California to pursue both a career in music and to attend UC Berkeley where she graduated with Honors in English Literature. Immediately following graduation, Mandi made a move to Los Angeles in order to pursue a career in music while simultaneously attending law school. Mandi paid her dues touring throughout the country and making a name for herself in the Los Angeles music scene. She recently graduated, passed the California State Bar (albeit playing a gig a few weeks before!) and completed her first independent album, “bleeding the line …”
bleeding the line …,” a 12 track album written by Mandi was released digitally in August 2007. The release of Mandi's album garnered her a lot of industry attention including that of Jeff Rosen, Bob Dylan’s longtime head of publishing. Jeff, drawn by Mandi’s song lyrics and charismatic personality, introduced her to executives at Sony who subsequently signed her to a record deal through Fred Ehrlich's label venture with Sony BMG's Victor Records. Mandi immediately began work on her major label debut album, “Alice In No Man’s Land."
When discussing the album, Mandi states that, “Each song stems from my own personal experiences, the lives of the people closest to me and those I meet along the way. I write songs from my stomach and will take an event that has happened to me immediately following its conclusion and I will stretch it out until it’s at the rawest form. Once I have the emotion explode on paper, I am much more at ease. Songwriting is cathartic for me. I think it’s great to passionately feel, but there is a point when you should make sure you have an outlet, especially when the excess baggage takes control of your life. Hopefully listening to my music will be cathartic for other people.
Mandi recently signed to CAA and will be touring heavily in support of her album. “Alice In No Man’s Land” has already started generating strong buzz; songs on the album have been featured on The Hills and The Real World on MTV and in Girlfriends on the CW. MSN Music featured her as their “One To Watch” artist in August and Yahoo Music named her one of their “Who’s Next” artists. Additionally, her first U.S. single and video for “Why Pretend” will be released to radio and MTV in the first quarter of 2009.
