Lil' Troy

There are many record producers and artists in this world with the ambition to get them to the top, but there are few who have the perseverance, the integrity, the attitude and the drive to get them there. Out of Houston comes one who possesses all of these qualities, Lil' Troy.

Lil' Troy was born and raised in South Park, Houston Texas, delivered into a musical family. Troy, who says that he believes strongly in education, played the alto sax and was first chair throughout high school in the band. He believes that his childhood background is the main reason behind his love for the music business. His mother was even given an offer to go on the road and record with Lou Rawls (yes , The Lou Rawls). According to Troy,"She declined because she had only recently been married to his father, and she did not want to leave him". "I'm glad she didn't go because everything would have been different and I might not even be here."

Now Lil' Troy and his Short Stop Records is celebrating it's 10-year anniversary. In his ten years of producing, Lil' Troy has been responsible for putting a lot of artists on the map. He was responsible for the very first record release by then 16-year-old Mr. Scarface,

personally knew the late great Easy E, been label mates with East Coast Don Jay Z. In addition to these accomplishments, Lil' Troy has executively-produced products of 3-2 and Mista Fingers, he has overseen the release of five other albums, including "Anti-N--", "A-Machine ( a group which included the Southern hit-maker Mike B). Two for Rapper Rasheed ("Living in the Ghetto," and "Funk In The Air") and three albums with Mass 187,

one of which, "Real Trues Paying Dues," was picked up by Polygram, re-released nationwide, and featured a remix by super-producer Crazy C.

His newest release, a compilation called "Sittin' Fat Down South" features Troy, his cousin Lil' Will, Scarface, Willie D, Lil' Keke, Fat Pat, 3-2, Botany Boys and Mass 187. It has already gone Gold (sold over 500,000 copies as of Mid July '99) and is on strong pace to the million mark. With the producing and mixing talents of Grim, there is nothing that can stop this album. As Troy states "I am the conductor, and Grim is the orchestra, I help fine tune his massive talent, to the sound I need".

In a recent interview by Music Magazine Troy was asked who his inspirations and mentors were, "I look up to J ( Prince J, CEO of Rap-A-Lot Records), Master P, Easy E, and Tony Draper, (CEO of Suave House Records)". "I look up to these people for starting and running their companies themselves, just like me".

Lil' Troy has recently signed a recording deal with Universal Records which means one will be hearing a lot more of this talented producer/artist in the future. STAY TUNED
