Following a long journey to the United States (US), guitarist and singer Sébastien Plante resumed contact with Pascal Dufour in their home province of Quebec. Dufour was Plante's partner for a decade in the band Moonlight Drive. Following a meeting, the former band members decided to contact Moonlight Drive's bassist, Stéphane Dussault, with the intention of forming a rock music group. Joined by drummer Stéphane Beaudin, the four young musicians subsequently commenced rehearsing as a band.
In the summer of 1991, the four Quebecians borrowed from a Rolling Stones song to conceive the band name, Les Respectables, and also proceeded to begin playing live performances. Performing in local bars, the rock group played original compositions that had been co-written by Sébastien Plante and Pascal Dufour. After several months, approximately twenty new songs had been added to the band's repertoire and Les Respectables considered itself a fully-fledged musical outfit.
The four musicians consolidated their cohesion as a group during the live performances undertaken during touring and the Les Respectables identity consequently formed.
