LEFTSIDE

There are two artists by this name:

  1. Leftside is a popular Jamaican dancehall deejay (rapper) and producer, renown for his alter-ego “Dr Evil” and the work with his former partner Esco. As a solo artist, he’s had hits with “Dem Gone” and “Cowboy”. As the duo Leftside & Esco, he performed the vocals on the smash hit “Belly Nug Bang (Tuck In Yu Belly)”, and as the persona Dr Evil (also with Esco) he made the dancehall charts with “More Punanny”, “No STD” and “Stay Far From We”. Most recently he has collaborated with artists Blak Diamon, Bugle, and Konshens for the radio hit “Forget The World”. All tracks performed by Leftside both solo and with Esco were produced by himself, and alongside Esco when they were a duo. Leftside also has a string of popular videos on Youtube where he performs imitations of various pop-culture celebrities.

  2. Founded in the summer of 2004 by Dennis ( Drums ), Andre (Bass), Lasse (Guitar) and Matze (Guitar & Vocals), the german band “Leftside” soon developed their own energetic style characterized by a pulsing mix of fast punk songs, calm ballads and danceable ska. Their declared aim is to make melodic punk rock. Most of the songs are in German and written by themselves dealing with everyday situations, ranging from love to politics.

A couple of Gigs with artists like ZSK, Broilers, Fuckin’ Faces, Zaunpfahl, No Exit, The Aggrolites, Sonne Ost, Shit Lives On, Kind im Magen? or Nevermind show that these relatively young boys really seem to like being on stage and never miss an occasion to play live. To have fun is their self-proclaimed motivation.

After one year the group could record its first two songs of their repertoire for a small number compilation published for a local youth event. This first success was followed by a demo tape which was solely used for sales promotion. The 9 track compact disk is called “Ehrlich und unzensiert” and was recorded in their own rehearsal room. Next years’ plan is to produce another two CD-compilations as well as an EP.

The boys who are still playing in their original instrumentation can be contacted via the Internet. The site www.leftside-punk.de provides loads of information about the band, videos, songs and pictures. Take a look!
