In 2008, San Diego singer/songwriter and cancer survivor Laura Roppé recorded her first album, "Girl Like This," catching notice of local radio. An avalanche of listener response to Laura's music eventually led to a record deal with London-based label, Right Recordings, in October 2008.
Two days after signing the contract with her label, Laura was diagnosed with an aggressive form of breast cancer. She immediately underwent seven months of chemotherapy and radiation treatments, finished in May 2009.
As of August 2009, Laura's music is being played on BBC radio all over the UK, including on Radio 2, in Liverpool, Manchester, Scotland, Sheffield, Wales, and many others. The result: "Float Away" hit No. 5 on the Amazon UK charts in 2009. The music video for "Float Away" -- shot in England in late 2009 by director Steve Graham (with videos for Oasis, Paul McCartney, Annie Lennox, Lenny Kravitz to his credit) -will be released in March 2010. Laura performed "Float Away" at the LA Music Awards in Hollywood, CA, in 2009, where "Girl Like This" was nominated Album of the Year, and "Float Away" won Americana Single the Year. Laura is currently recording her second full-length album, produced by her cousin, indie rocker Matthew Embree (Rx Bandits, The Sound of Animals Fighting). Laura's new song "Butterfly Girl" (recorded for her second album) won an international song contest in 2009.
