Lara George

One of the most interesting things about Lara George is the very unique blend of extreme qualities in her character. She is both quiet and vivacious, subtle and deliberate, reserved yet very extroverted. All of these qualities lend themselves to her soulful style of music to truly express the depth that is who she is. Lara began her musical journey in her secondary school, Queens’ College Yaba Lagos Nigeria, when she had the opportunity of being part of the school’s choir where she privileged to take many lead parts in the school musical concerts. However, her professional career took off in the year 1997 when she joined a group called ‘Rocksolid’ – the music team of a campus fellowship called The Rock foundation Mission – of which she was a part. The following year, that group went on to release an album titled ‘Your Dream Come True’, and it was while working on that project Lara met Ty, Emem and Dapo with whom she was later to start a group called KUSH. As the soprano voice of KUSH, Lara George lent depth to the more upbeat sound that the group had and provided a balance that allowed the music of KUSH to be loved by all who heard it. An international record deal and many nominations and awards later, the group decided to take a break and Lara George’s solo career was birthed. In this debut album titled ’FOREVER IN MY HEART’, one of Lara’s objectives is to project her true musical self. If it were possible to be both fun and soulful at the same time, Lara is that person. As a singer and songwriter, she touches on all issues that life brings her way and is never afraid to be real; the very quality that allows people everywhere to identify with her music. Percussions and strings, western and homeland influences, and an eclectic musical background ranging from the classical to highlife, all come together to define the music of Lara George, making it slightly unpredictable but easy on the ears and rich to the heart. The decision to pursue the path of a musical career was not an easy one to make. As an architect by training, recent wife and new mother, it took a series of divinely orchestrated events to finally bring Lara to the point where she chose to follow her heart and the call of God upon her life. “I realized that I only have one life to live, and that God will require it of me….” she said. This newness of zeal and determination birthed this album ‘Forever In My Heart’ and is the drive behind the hit song ‘Ijoba Orun’ which was re-arranged by Lara George. Lara is happily married to Gbenga George who is a legal practitioner and her manager, and they both have a son, Adeoba Alexander George. found this love
