Carolina Cutie
Lacy Green grew up in the small town of Pilot Mountain in North Carolina. She first realized she was interested in music from an early age, from singing with her family in the local church, to listening to her parents play old fashioned soul artists at home, like Otis Redding and Sam Cooke.
"I love any music that manages to marry different traditions for a sound that is new and innovative, but still authentic to its predecessors.Old soul music did that. Bands like New Grass Revival did that,” says Lacy. From College to Country
Lacy originally planned to parlay her love of music into a career in music journalism, and set to work studying hard at university, she but soon found that what she truly wanted was to be onstage and behind the microphone. Lacy just finished her degree at UNC-Chapel Hill this last spring, and quickly decided to pursue music full-time and set to work making an album. For the Summertime
As much as she loved soul music, once Lacy set out to create her own songs she found herself drawn to country and bluegrass artists like the Dixie Chicks. She got veteran songwriter Ronnie Bowman on board to help her create her sound, and “For the Summertime” was born.
“I loved this song the minute I heard it because it immediately painted this familiar portrait of the summertime and growing up in North Carolina. I think the imagery in the lyrics is beautiful, and I hope that other people can relate to it as well,” says Lacy.
