“Kimaera is living proof that the peripheries of the metal world map can hold treasures of at least equal value to those releases made in the heart of it. If Theatre of Tragedy ever returns from their musical journey into Scooter-land and decides to make an album that outdoes all their previous ones, then they might compete with Kimaera… ‘Ebony Veiled' is a work which stands firmly on its own feet. It's original, varied, catchy and "genuine".
With 'Solitary Impact', Kimaera have finally reached a certain maturity, and their Gothic Doom/Death is one of the most uplifting I have listened to this year. Kimaera are no longer a mere student, but now give lessons. A great success that I hope will last a long time. [Doom-metal.com]
“From Lebanon comes a musical talent named Kimaera. “Ebony Veiled” is such a killer blend of melodic doom and heavy groove death metal. Compared to bands like Opeth and Daylight Dies Kimaera really rival all the better doom.”
“Kimaera have released a true opus of beauty and sadness with “Ebony Veiled”. Prepare the world for a rival doom/death masterpiece in the future from Kimaera.” [burningmisery.com]
"It may appear that Doom has long since outlived itself, however, 'Ebony Veiled' the long awaited album of the Lebanese band 'Kimaera' which was released by the Russian label Stygian Crypt can destroy this stereotype and easily claim to be the Doom metal discovery of this year."
"..Currently, the band is working on its second album which can make us forget the old idols of Doom and make us talk about it but this will happen only if the band will be able to overstep the boundaries of Ebony Veiled. So, My Dying Bride, be aware!" [Darkside.ru]
"Their sound takes us back to the early 90's and into the British Isles, where bands such as My Dying Bride, Anathema and Paradise Lost were starting their careers."
"From the all different bands that have tried to succeed in this genre, Kimaera is one of the few that succeeds in creating more interest than the rest." [Overhookmusic.com]
'..Theres nothing more compelling than a band that tends to stray away from the already conquered grounds of the Metal battlefield. Its nice to hear something different every once and awhile and thats what drew me towards KIMAERA ..'
'..I had never heard so many darker genres fused together at once. Theres a bit of something for every Metal fan.' [Metal-observer.com]
"Kimaera have produced an extremely admirable piece of work here. I’d put this on par with ‘Novembers Doom’ when they really hit a strong stride on Ebony Veiled, and some moments are nearly in league with Daylight Dies and Agalloch. It goes to show good metal can be found everywhere, and to give it all a chance. [metalreview.com]
KIMAERA was founded back in summer 2000 by Vocalist/Guitarist JP, under the name 'Chimera' . The band makes original music with a distinctive style coming across as a combination of the members' different and various influences into a mixture of Symphonic/Atmospheric/Doom/Death Metal, with gothic undertones, resounding through melodic interludes of violins, pianos and occasional female vocals The music's graceful diffusion throughout so many genres is a hallmark defining KIMAERA's style. The band released 'God's Wrath', a self-produced Single, in March of 2004. The release of which got KIMAERA attention from Stygian Crypt Productions (www.stygiancrypt.com), which in turn led to their release of their debut album ‘Ebony Veiled’, in April 2006, which was labeled as ‘the Doom metal discovery of this year’, and ‘an admirable piece of work’, among other excellent reviews...
KIMAERA is among the first wave of international metal bands originating from the Middle East, and more specifically the Arab world. They have been described as the "Lebanese ambassadors of doom" and have helped put Lebanon on the map of the metal world.
KIMAERA's history is riddled with unfortunate circumstances that led to many setbacks on their path of getting recognition abroad. Everything, ranging from immigrating members, war and terrorism, to tyrannical censorship.
However, despite all of these unforgiving conditions, KIMAERA has released their second opus of Doom entitled Solitary Impact, with their first official music video, under the same label Stygiancrypt Productions.
KIMAERA's first show and live appearance in Europe was in MASTERS OF ROCK 2010, headlined by MANOWAR in Czech Rep. in July. MOR was a success. It introduced KIMAERA to the international scene and were described as the 'black horse', and 'the most pleasant surprise of the festival'.
"«Ebony Veiled» is what you can regard as a very easy record to listen to, composed and played by obviously talented musicians who can compose and arrange. Good, very good." [PullTheChain.be]
"Don't forget the name KIMAERA because you'll surely be hearing a lot of it in the future."
