Killing Heidi were unearthed by Triple J Radio with their song Kettle in 1996. Brother and sister song writing team Ella and Jessie Hooper, only 18 and 20 respectivly. In being unearthed it showed that these young people had talent and that they were able to mix with people twice their age. Their debut single Weir got into the top 10 and their second Mascara got to number one position for three weeks and Killing Heidi were the first Aussie band to do that in three Years. Their debut album Reflector also got to the number one position.
Ella and Jessie Hooper were raised in Violet Town (A small country town in Victoria, Australia) and learnt at a very young age of how playing music is more exciting than watching Television or hearing music from the wireless. NOW Killing Heidi can Blast the World with their music.
Ella and Jessie recorded the first single in mid 1999 and met up with Warren Jenkin, bass player and Adam Redretti, drummer, who formerly Rocked with the Non-International Lifeform.
Reflector was recorded over eight months using the latest digital technology, at the studios formerly used by Crouded House to record the album Woodface. Reflector was the result of a two year development period here the band worked tirelessly with Paul Kosky to turn their band into what it is today.
Rather than rush to relise the first Single and Album they took time to develop their skills as Song writers and performers.
The band attended their second ARIAS night (Australias version of the grammys, only Aussies can win awards) in October 2000 and won many awards. Famus music critic Molly Meldrum said in an interview with them in 2000 that Reflector and the band will be around for a long time and he predicted they would be winning ARIAS.
