Katy Perry Appointed UNICEF Ambassador
Katy Perry has become UNICEF’s newest ambassador.
The singer was welcomed into the UNICEF family Tuesday night, by being appointed the philanthropic organization’s newest Goodwill Ambassador. She was later joined by employees of the United Nations programme to commemorate the honor at the star-studded 2013 UNICEF Snowflake Ball in New York City. Katy also took the stage to perform her new hit, “Unconditionally”, at the affair at Cipriani Wall Street.
The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) is a United Nations Program based in New York City that provides humanitarian and developmental assistance to mothers and children in developing countries. It is one of the members of the United Nations Development Group and its Executive Committee. Katy, as Goodwill Ambassador, will work with children affected by abuse, poverty, neglect, and violence, and youth who are adversely impacted by conflict. She was appointed by the programme’s Executive Director, Anthony Lake, who called her a “champion for children.”
Katy seemed to be very excited about the appointment. The diva shared her excitement via Twitter, by posting the following message: “Guys! I am SO honored to become a @UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador today! I am #unconditionallyUNICEF. @voicesofyouth.” The post also included a link to a video “showing her at work - and at play - with children around the world, featuring her song “Unconditionally”.
