Out of Chicago we acknowledge one of the most powerful and melodious voices of Latino Christian Music: Julissa. Her parents, of Puerto Rican origin, (with special recognition to her maternal Grandmother, guide and spiritual mentor of her family), is where Julissa enters the world of music. Today, Julissa is one of the most renowned singers in the Christian music industry with countless awards and public recognitions, thousands of tours presenting concerts throughout Europe, Latin America and the United States. Above all, she is acknowledged by thousands of Christian fans who see firsthand through her interpretation of music her seal and powerful worship ministry.
She debuts as a singer in her church choir at the age of 12, by the time she's 14 she's teaching Sunday School. At 16 she begins to sing professionally with a Christian music group, "Chosen Generation", recording several albums. It was during these recordings that she meets the Puerto Rican musical director, Mike Rivera, whom she marries in 1997 and currently have three children, John Michael, Alyrah, and Jayden.
Since her first album, "Regresara por Mi" (He will Return for Me), until this day, she is distinguished by her seal of musical excellence, her husband Mike Rivera, a veteran in music, has played a major role in this development. Together, they have been able to position Julissa in the musical market with overwhelming success. As living proof we see the countless awards and recognitions that she has received throughout her 10 years of ministry. She was recently nominated for the "Dove Awards," the most important award in the English Christian Music industry with her album "Mi Proposito" (My Purpose), Integrity Music.
Julissa has been able to develop a musical versatility which makes her a virtuous performer, regardless of the genre she may perform. From ballads, to rhythmic melodies, Julissa's voice always presents a strong performance demonstrating her unique style. Julissa perfoms from her deep and melodious ballads to the rhythmic vallento and ranchera music all of which reflect the objective that has surplanted her musical career: seeking excellence, presenting Jesus as the anchor of her life.
Songs like, "Con cada Latido" (With every Beat), "Te Prometo" (I Promise), "El no Perecio" (He did not Perish), "Enamorada" (Embrace Me), have become internationalized, with their impeccable production and inovative musical arrangements. Highly recognized singers such as Ricardo RodrÃguez, Rene Gonzalez, Luis Santiago, Roberto Orellana, BenjamÃn Rivera and Bobby Cruz, among others incorporated the setting for her successful and well known album "Duetos" (Duets).
2006 marked one more year of fruitful accomplishments for Julissa. An incalculable value for many Christians was launched from her latest album "Inolvidable", (Unforgettable), this is a compilation of traditional Christian hymns with new musical arrangements.
Aside from this, she is the conductor (presenter/host) for the weekly program "Espiritu Latino" (Latino Spirit), on the new Gospel Music Channel which views on cable and satelite networks and is viewed from coast to coast in the United States.
In the editorial field, a motivational book for youth, "El Ritmo de la Vida" (Rhythm of Life), is one of her current projects and will be released along with a new album May 2007.
