The very talented Journey South were first brought to the attention of a wider audience during the X-Factor show in 2005.
As part of a four man band called The Answer and then as Journey South they had been gigging around the UK for at least ten years. They travelled to London to try and get a break and record contract and hence the name change to Journey South. They returned home when things did not work out and carried on gigging as a duo.
They were as we now know very talented but just had not had that lucky break which they needed and now have thanks to Simon Cowell and The X-Factor show.
Andy and Carl Pemberton two brothers from Coulby Newham in Middlesbrough, now make up the duo Journey South. They both attended the same schools, Kader Primary School and later Acklam Grange School. It was here that Carl, the younger of the two, started playing the guitar at the age of 12. His first guitar was brought from a jumble sale.
Andy is 30 and a former electrician. He is married to Michelle and has a young son called Leo.
Carl is 25 and in his own words was a very bad plumber. Carl’s nickname is Juke Box because he is always singing. He proposed to his girlfriend Vic Duffy on the night of the final and hopes to get married in 2007.
Their favourite sports are Golf, Squash and working out in the Gym as Carl’s fiance is a qualified fitness instructor.
Andy and Carl, say they have had their ups and downs on the way to reaching the finals of the ITV show. Andy, 29, said they had some tough gigs during their ten years of singing on Teesside, including a wedding when their sound equipment blew up. The unlucky incident happened at the Tree Bridge Hotel, near Great Ayton, in August last year. Andy said: "The PA system and speakers blew up. It was really embarrassing." "We had to sing acapella and everybody got involved and enjoyed it. It was really spontaneous. It actually turned out to be one of our best nights."
They have a very close family in dad Trevor and mum Genda who have supported them through out their careers and especially during the X-Factor live shows and they could be seen proudly supporting their sons every week on each live show.
Since the X-Factor finished Journey South have been very busy doing gigs around the UK and in the recording studio They are signed to Sony BMG, and will have their debut album released on 20 March in time for Mothers Day.
We wish them very best of luck with this forthcoming album and hope they will be around in the music industry for a long time to come.
