Jesse

Jesse Bermudez has been involved in the Latin music scene of Philadelphia for over 30 years. Jesse, who’s worked with several artist around the country and even toured internationally, brings a wealth of experience in Artist Representation, Stage Production, Festival Productions, Consulting for Latino Entertainment, Master of Ceremonies/ Voice Over’s and On-Air Personality.

Jesse began as a performer in the Doo Wop scene of the 1950’s which quickly led to touring the international waters as a member of the Vessolaire’s on the Mediterranean Good Will Tour Cruise where he performed in clubs like Club Med. After being in the R&B Scene where he became a mobile DJ. He started spinning Disco music with Latin Music in the late 70's and DJ'ed for the various Latin Bands such as Tito Puente, Joe Cuba, Tipica 73 at The Latin Wonder Gardens in Atlantic City. In the mid 1970’s, Jesse turned his focus to the Latin Music scene of Philadelphia as a performer and eventually as a promoter, coordinating the biggest Salsa Concert attended in the Philadelphia area, Salsa con Salsa, held at the Philadelphia Civic Center. The concert had legendary performers like Celia Cruz, Willie Colon, and Hector Lavoe on stage in front of 5,500 people.

After his many endeavors in the Latin Music Scene as an advocator of Latin Musicians, Jesse founded the Asociacion de Musicos Latino Americanos (AMLA) in 1982 and in 1986 founded the first Latin Music School known as the AMLA School of Performing Arts. The founding organization was later renamed Artistas y Musicos Latino Americanos. Jesse also created many educational programs about Latin music that are seen today in public and parochial schools in the Philadelphia and the Delaware Valley known as the AMLA’s Artist in Education Movement. Through his involvement at AMLA he has set the stage to be known as the go to person for all things Latin Music Related. Mr. Bermudez has received numerous recognitions for his work most recently the Painted Bride Artist of the City and a Lifetime Achievement Award in the Arts and community.

Bermudez continues to advocate making Latin music part of the fabric of the city of Philadelphia and through his radio show “Sonido Diferente” He currently is the Host of “Sonido Diferente” on Mega 1310 Saturday’s from 11am to 1pm, which is transmitted live from a very popular record shop he interviews local recording artists, plays their music, and also provides important information to the Latino community. Jesse has a diverse background in the arts and is looking to transition all of his knowledge in the next phase of his career as a media personality.
