As far as a biography goes we’d like to avoid any adjective loaded pseudo-hype that accompanies most bands bios. Instead we decided to deliver an anti-bio, or a summarized version of our 3 year history to date. We first started practicing during the summer of 2001 in the ever friendly spare bedroom of Dave DeVine’s house in Simi Valley, CA. Using the inspiration of suburbia we jammed a few times a week eventually writing three solid songs to call our own. The next step was to test this stuff in front of an audience. Phone calls were made, and eventually we landed our first show on a friend’s front lawn. We barely made it through our set of three songs when none other than the Simi Valley PD arrived right on time to shut it down; a typical finale for parties with a band.
For the next year or so we wrote and played and wrote and played until eventually we agreed that we needed to record something to start handing out at our shows. We polished five songs we felt confident with and headed to a local studio to record our first EP “An Audible Representation of An Emotion Not An Object” which we held a release party for at our local skate shop Infusion during the summer of 2002.
Using our newly recorded material we played more and more and started to develop a local fan base. Yet again we wrote and we played constantly and again we decided it was time to hit the studio for some more songs. We then partnered up with the Stolen Babies and recorded our 2nd EP “Karma Forgive Me” at their cozy studio in West Los Angeles which was released it in early 2003.
Following were many more shows and even then more shows. And by shows we mean Hollywood, local parties and not so local parties. We were on top of the world with new material and shows for months until disaster struck.
Marco was admitted to Simi Valley emergency room a little after midnight after being punched square in the face and suffering a broken jaw which required his mouth be wired shut for over a month. Shows were cancelled and morale was low so we did what any other band would do: write more songs.
The disaster turned into a milestone in our evolution and we were rewarded with another guitarist, Jon Moreaux. With the addition of another guitarist, newly written songs and wire-free jaws, we were ready to let loose. We hit up Love Juice Studios in La Habra, CA and recorded three brand new songs (dubbed the “03EP”) to massively distribute guerilla style and get us on our feet again.
The reaction to the new material was nothing short of phenomenal. The response fueled many a show to come and pushed our music beyond the boundaries of local borders. Shortly after the 03EP had been in circulation we met with producer Brian Virtue (Jane’s Addiction) who wanted to re-record the 03EP in hopes of shopping a demo. We luckily also managed to put ourselves on a Christmas compilation album, A Santa Cause, with huge acts like Blink-182, New Found Glory, and Something Corporate.
At this point our creative juices were overflowing and we had to somehow harness them. Here we had 10 new songs written and simmering with nowhere to go. Enter DoughMain records. We met with Josh Wright, owner of DoughMain records, and he emphatically agreed to fund the recording of our new ideas in one full length album now entitled “In So Many Words”. This marks InMemory’s first full length indie release and is about to kick start our musical career. The release date is September 28th, and in so many words, we will explain to anyone willing to listen, who we are.
