"Music gives me the support I need in life to really live. Without it I couldn’t survive all that shit out there” … Adrian Sieber (Vocals, Guitar).
Exactly two years after the release of their gold album ‘Awaydays’, The Lovebugs are back out there in the public arena with their new album ‘13 SONGS WITH A VIEW’.
And it’s more powerful, energetic and self evident than you could have ever imagined. Their previous release, ‘Awaydays’, showed off The Lovebugs’ introverted, melancholy and vulnerable side. If you’d taken Sieber’s Lyrics seriously, you might have taken this album to be their last: he was in fully apocalyptic mood and recounts a longing for things new. It could almost be taken as an intimate and sincere farewell, recorded and produced within the confines of their own four walls. A tour followed but then came The Lovebugs split from Sebastian Hausmann. He was not only their bass player but one of the founder members of the band. Rumours about an impending band bust-up spread like wildfire, until spring 2002, when another Lovebugs single (‘Flavour of the Day’) made it into the charts. Anyone who was at The Lovebugs only gig in 2002 and saw their new line-up will know exactly why they have gained the reputation of being a great live band. If you were there, you were probably able to tell what this would evolve into during the The Lovebugs’ following studio sessions.
“13 SONGS WITH A VIEW made us scratch and dig around in the dirt, made us ask questions. We wanted to go beyond the boundaries, hide the tracks we’d left behind.
The Lovebugs’ evolution is an ongoing process, we’re always developing, experimenting, growing with one another. Eventually we find ourselves nearer the heart of the band, even if we don’t get there by the most direct route.” …. Simon Ramseier (drums).
13 SONGS WITH A VIEW is an alternative album full of hope and sincerity. An album which is unaffected, without airs and graces. It’s about the joys of experimentation, blunt feelings and wild simplicity. It’s an album which doesn’t rely on given values. The Lovebugs are making their points of view clear and have again become more raw, more rocky, more psychedelic. At the same time, their sixth studio album is mature and impetuous. It is the result of the band’s ten year history. Just as on their last album, Adrian Sieber (vocals/guitar) was responsible for the songwriting and Thomas Rechberger (guitar) the producing. Stefan Wagner (keyboards) uses sounds from the early 70s, whilst Florian Senn (bass) and Simon Ramseier (drums) have been working on the driving, heavy grooves which represent a change in direction for this album. 13 SONGS WITH A VIEW manages to capture the energy and the enthusiasm the band have for performing live at almost 1000 gigs, unlike anyof the band’s previous studio albums have done.
They finished recording the album last autumn, but were still not quite happy with it.
Something was missing, the emotions weren’t quite sincere enough, there wasn’t quite enough of the band captured on it. In short, they didn’t feel that they had quite reached their goal and they suddenly started to question everything.
