Lenya Wilks

Lenya has started 2011 in pursuit of her solo career. She has released two new singles on the ZX5 Productions label; the first a R&B single titled “I hate love” wherein Lenya used her strong and distinct vocals to echo the oxymoronic sentiments of many who blame love for the hurt and pain they endure in relationships.

Her second release is a dynamic dance track titled “Stalker”. In this track you will want to listen carefully for the ironic twist as she talks about her apparent admiration for her dapperly dressed stalker. Both of Lenya’s new tracks are getting fairly reasonable rotation on local radio and on several internet radio stations.

These tracks are available for sale on ITunes and Amazon and can be heard on Lenya’s facebook page. Lenya is presently in the studio working on additional tracks for her debut album which she plans to release by summer this year…it promises to be a hit…!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Lenya Wilks, the youngest of three children, hails from Ewarton, St. Catherine, Jamaica. She made her name as a strong competitor in the Digicel Rising Star Competition in 2007.

Her musical development began at the Trinity Preparatory School in Linstead where she learned to play the keyboards, conga drums and the recorder. Later she attended Charlemont High School where she joined the choir and was quickly moved up to the senior choir because of her advanced vocal ability. As the lead singer, Lenya led the choir to numerous trophies and gold medals. In one year the Charlemont High School choir won 22 gold medals.

In 2004 and 2005, Lenya won the trophy for best soloist at the Jamaica Cultural Development Commission (JCDC) Music Festival. In 2005 she also placed 2nd in the JCDC Children’s Gospel Festival. As a result, Lenya began doing performances including the Prime Minister’s Youth Conference along with weddings and private parties. In 2007, Lenya was persuaded by her music teacher Nigel Powell (brother of famed Jamaican sprinter Asafa Powell) to enter the Digicel Rising Star competition. Lenya remembers her experience at the competition as being “very exciting and a tremendous opportunity”.

On the night of her surprising departure from the Digicel Rising Star competition, her luck turned when she received a call from the administrative office of Harmony House inviting her to a meeting the following day. That meeting would mark the start of a relationship between Harmony House and Lenya where she toured extensively with Beres Hammond between 2007 and 2010 as a solo act. She has performed around the world including the USA and Canada, Europe and the Caribbean to rave reviews.
