Goin' Places

Many bands start out with an agenda. Some form with intent to change the world through music. Some get together only for the girls. Goin' Places is no different. They too started with an agenda; to entertain themselves... nothing more, nothing less. All three members had known each other for several years when the band started and had actually been involved in other bands together too. In May of 2000 the three members got together to do something different from what they had been doing with their current bands. They began writing songs that they figured no one else, besides themselves, would enjoy. These early practice sessions resulted in the band deciding to record a demo for their own listening pleasure. The positive feedback received from said demo resulted in the band deciding to start playing live, as well as starting work on yet another demo. Soon after they began playing live more often and received more compliments, the greatest coming from Mass Giorgini in June. Mass, who has played bass in bands such as Squirtgun, Screeching Weasel and Common Rider, also owns and runs Sonic Iguana Studios in Lafayette, IN.

There he has produced legendary pop punk albums from virtually every band that Goin' Places has been influenced by. In June 2001 the band received word that Mass was interested in recording an album with them. A recording session for Jan. 2002 was eventually set up. Having already recorded 32 songs on their own, the boys definitely had an abundance of material. They chose the cream of the crop and began rehearsing for the upcoming recording. In the meantime, the band received another piece of great news when they received a call from Joe Queer of The Queers. Joe offered to appear as a vocalist on the upcoming recording. January finally rolled around and the members of Goin' Places took off for Indiana. They returned home 11 days later with a brand new album...and no label to release it. Upon returning home they began discussions with Mutant Pop Records. The label agreed to release a 6 song CD of some of the band's early, demo recordings. This CD was titled "Warm Up" and was released on June 13, 2002. On May 19, 2002, Goin' Places took part in The Bowery Electric Festival at CBGBs in New York City along with The Misfits and others. This was a show held in honor of the late Joey Ramone. The band wrote a song especially for this show called "Never Forget" and entered it into a songwriting contest. They ended up winning the contest and the privilege to record the song with producer Daniel Rey, who has worked with the Ramones and Misfits, among others. In June the band went into Loho Studios in NYC to record the track which would be released on "The Bowery Electric E.P.", which also features a track performed by CJ Ramone, Tommy Ramone, Marky Ramone, Daniel Rey and Jed Davis (who is a famed NYC songwriter). In August 2002, Goin' Places officially signed with Coldfront Records in Berkeley, Ca. Their full length debut, "Girl Songwriting 101" was released on Oct. 15, 2002 and is now available in stores everywhere. The record comes from the recording session they did at Sonic Iguana with Mass. A national tour will follow shortly.
