Barbara Lewis

9 February 1943, Salem, Michigan, USA. Signed to Atlantic Records in 1961, Lewis enjoyed several regional hits before the sensual "Hello Stranger" established her light but enthralling style. Recorded in Chicago, the performance was enhanced by the vocal support of the Dells. Further singles included the vibrant "Someday We're Gonna Love Again" (1965), while "Baby I'm Yours" and "Make Me Your Baby" (both 1966) maintained her smooth, individual approach. Barbara remained with the label until 1968, but the following year moved to the Stax Records subsidiary Enterprise. Internal problems sadly doomed the album she made there, and having completed a handful of singles, Lewis withdrew from music altogether.
