Hi-Posi is essentially the solo project of vocalist/instrumentalist/songwriter Miho Moribayashi.
The band formed in 1988 and have released albums in Japan from Toshiba EMI, Biosphere Records and Kitty Records. Mr.Shindo became her music producer in 1997 and they made the natural move to CTPR(Contemp Records) in 1998.
Hi-Posi’s music is indescribable, irresistible pop. A wildly eclectic array of inspirations, including new wave, techno-pop, ska, and lounge, are thrown into the blender to create a mix that can only be described as Hi-Posi. They have the strong mixmusic aesthetic that is one of the most powerful common threads in the best of Japanese contemporary music. They incorporate another common thread of these artists: their music is extremely twisted. And,they have the third thread in abundance too: sweet melodies. Their skewed tales of love and obsession, sung in Miho’s breathy, sexy yet jaded voice, are chronicles of premilleniam musicians having a great time with the music and the audience.
Hi-Posi has collaborated with some of the best of Japan’s international pop/alternative set, including Keigo Oyamada (better known as “Cornelius”), Hiroshi Kawanabe (TOKYO No.1 SOUL SET), Tei Towa (ex:Dee-Lite) and Tomoyuki Tanaka (Fantastic Plastic Machine.) .
Miho Moribayashi was born in the Nagasaki Prefecture on March 30, and has been a singer-songwriter for many years. In addition to creating music as Hi-Posi, she works in TV and radio, creating music and narration for commercials.
