Hel is a Viking metal band that comes from Germany, and this is their debut album 'Orloeg.' Hel could be described as sounding like a combination between Graveland, Summoning, and Falkenbach. Their sound definitely shows influences from all of those bands, and that's very obvious after just a few minutes into this album. The lyrics are all written in German, and the vocals range from clean vocals to more of a rasp vocal. Not really a black metal rasp, but just a little bit more extreme then normal clean vocals. So how does this band compare to those bands mentioned above? Well to say the very least it kicks major ass! It's the best of all three bands put together and putting them three together you know your going to get something epic sounding, and that's exactly what you get.
At times the music is slower and even slows down to some acoustic guitars at times, but most of the time the music is rather fast. Occasionally they even use that mouth harp that makes that really funky sound you hear in folk music a lot. Plus not to mention the awesome keyboards in this bands album. They sound a lot like Summoning with the very epic, medieval feeling to them. Well what more can I say if you like any of those bands get this album, because 'Orloeg' is just amazing!
