Heavy Weight Champ have proven that they are a force to be reckoned with. With the 2000 release of their debut EP Two Triple Zero, and the awsome new double A side Grey Filters, this dynamic power trio have inflicted some serious damage on both critics and fans.
HWC's addictive blend of anxiety laced aggression and motionally charged melodies have made such an impact that Two Triple Zero sold out six months after it's release and Grey Filters has quickly been picked up by fans and radio nationally. Distributed nationally through Phantom Music's sic2 label, Two Triple Zero peaked at number two in the AIR charts, and has since sustained rotation on Triple J's Three Hours Of Power. Interviews with Triple J's metal guru Costa Zouliou and Morning Show's Francis Leach have made an attempt to explain the appeal of HWC, with a live acoustic broadcast from Triple J showing a lighter shade of metal ...
"The Perth heavy music scene is festering and Heavy Weight Champ is gonna deliver the sucker punch to bust the boil" - Costa Zouliou, Triple J
These achievements attest to the fact that HWC's live show lives up to their name. The band's ability to switch from sheer force to skilful grace has earned them support slots with such diverse acts as Grinspoon and The Mark of Cain to Killing Heidi and 28 Days. With one national tour already under their belt, and having "represented the West with perfection" (-Revolver Magazine), it has been made clear that Heavy Weight Champ will not go quietly.
"Heavy Weight Champ deliver the most energetic and least pretentious performance, letting the music truly move them instead of performing. Brutally melodic, Heavy Weight Champ are the real deal" - Sabian Wilde, X-Press Magazine
The heavy-weight trio are now working towards the release of a full length album and continuing their relentless live schedule, are about to embark on a second national tour... proving that Heavy Weight Champ will stop at nothing to defend their title.
