[edit] Biography
The members of GS Boyz were friends at Bowie High School in Arlington.[1] GS Boyz had many regional hits in its early stages, including "Hit the G-Spot", "Twisted", "He Don't Deserve You", and "First Time."[2] The group signed to Yung Joc's label Swagg Team Entertainment in 2009.[3] The group's debut single "Stanky Legg" peaked at #49 on the Billboard Hot 100 and #7 on the Hot Rap Tracks chart. Its music video topped the countdown on BET's 106 & Park in February 2009.[2] The group also released a remix of "Stanky Leg" with Trina.[2] "Stanky Legg" is based on a dance move that two of the GS Boyz members invented:
"He started doing his leg, like that," Soufside said, explaining the motion where his partner Prince started rotating his leg in front of him, the way you would twist your foot to put out cigarette, except using the whole leg. "I was like, 'Hey, that looks stanky, how stanky leg'" And the Stanky Leg [sic] was born.[4]
According to Shaheem Reid of MTV News, the "Stanky Legg" dance is part of Dallas's "D-Town Boogie" scene. The GS Boyz performed the dance on Snoop Dogg's talk show on MTV, Dogg After Dark.[4] In response to critics, member Marc D asserted that the group composes more than only "dance songs".[1]
Also According to MTV News:Months after the song became a sensation across the globe,it was reported to Jive/Battery/Swagg Team that the Dance/Instrumental were stolen from a local unsigned artist by the name of "T-Real" and the original producer "Ryan Hitz".The artist had a diss song that was heard all over the south that reached out to DJ's all over and when they found out the truth they were soon to stop spinning the record "Stanky Legg".The GS Boyz were later hit with a copyright infringement case that they plead guilty to and had to pay 48% the royalties made off the record back to the Producer "Ryan Hitz".
