Gravity Kills is an industrial rock band rooted in St. Louis, MO. The band started out as a foursome in 1994 when vocalist Jeff Scheel, keyboardist/programmer Doug Firley, guitarist Matt Dudenhoeffer and drummer Kurt Kerns joined forces to write and record the song GUILTY. The song was submitted to KPNT, a local radio station for a compilation CD of St. Louis area artists.
After receiving airplay on the station, GUILTY quickly went to number one due to overwhelming requests. The band continued to write and record songs and subsequently signed with New York-based TVT Records.
The band's first album, self-titled, was released in March of 1996. GUILTY was the obvious choice for a first single and it charted the top 10 at nearly every Modern Rock Radio station in the country. The music video for the song ranked as high as #17 on MTV's active rotation. The first album also produced top 10 singles ENOUGH, DOWN and BLAME. More music videos would soon follow for ENOUGH and BLAME.
Hollywood also embraced the band's music as they landed songs on 3 high-profile soundtracks: SEVEN, MORTAL KOMBAT and ESCAPE FROM L.A. In addition, the song LAST was featured in the film KISSING A FOOL.
With the huge success of the first album (selling nearly half a million copies) and their reputation for high-energy live performances, the band had established itself on the rock scene as one of the most promising young bands on the cutting edge. GRAVITY KILLS was also released worldwide with chart success in England, Germany and France.
The band's sophomore effort PERVERSION further pushed them into the limelight with its release in June of 1998. This record was a bit of a departure from the first with even heavier music for the masses. The production on this record pushed all limits and set a new standard for others to follow. FALLING enjoyed top twenty success at many stations around the country...
DROWN charted in Germany and the band again had made its mark worldwide. Rock anthems like IF and ALIVE rocked live venues everywhere...
Drummer Kurt Kerns left the band in August of 1999 to pursue a career in architecture. They've recently departed TVT Records and have been signed by Sanctuary Records...
March 19th, 2002 marks Gravity Kills' return to prominence with the release of SUPERSTARVED,their first album on their new label, Sanctuary Records, a label boasting such acts as Megadeth, Rollins Band and Corrosion of Conformity.
