Graveland are a polish blackmetal band reviving the long dead art of regression, incorporating celtic rhythms, sparse riffing, and deathly grim vocals.
Drawing on influences like Darkthrone, (the regression gods, and real founders of the Norwegian blackmetal movement) and early Emperor, and a dash of Burzum, plus their fellow Poles, Behemoth; Graveland have taken their anti-trend stance to the extreme, their early albums/eps/demos the result of layering trebly guitars and sparse chaotic vocals on to brutally underproduced drumming. And thus, are frowned upon by today's blackmetal masses, a culture more enthralled in the rockstar antics and riffing of the likes of Satyricon Cradle Of Filth and Dimmu Borgir (with a quick nod to Thybault) ..smirk...
Lyrically, Graveland have never done things by halves. Topics ranging from their "longing" for a return to past times (don't they all), how the Slavs were betrayed, and how Darken plans to lead the Slavs again into battle; to their antichristian furies, and how they intend exorcising this hate (by the physical slaughter of all judeo/christians, not just their god). Controversial, for sure, and the jew-slandering has led them to be labelled Nazis (something I'm sure Darken wouldn't deny,) and boycotted the world over, by the press.
