Gorgoroth

Gorgoroth was founded in Norway by Hat, Goat and Infernus in the beginning of the 90-ties, in 1992 to be exactly. Hat did the vocal, Goat the drums and Infernus the guitar. The name Gorgoroth is taken form the book Lord of The Rings, Gorgoroth is a dark and lifeless field where evil dwells. In 1993 Gorgoroth released their first demo called A Sorcery Written In Blood, Kjettar joined in on bass for that demo, but left right after.

After the demo, Gorgoroth signed on Embassy Rec. where they also released their first album, Pentagram in 1994. Samoth of Emperor did the bass on Pentagram. After the the release of Pentagram, Goat and Samoth left the band.

In 1996 Gorgoroth signed on Malicious Rec. which re-released Pentagram, the same year Gorgoroth released their second album Antichrist, on that album Frost of Satyricon did the drums, while Infernus did the bass and guitar, Hat the vocals, Pest of Obtained Enslavement did some additional vocal on the tracks "Bergtrollets Hevn", "Gorgoroth" and "Sorg", Infernus dedicated Antichrist to the memories of Euronymous.

Later that year Gorgoroth also released the MCD The Last Tormentor, on that album Grim (Immortal & Borknagar) replaced Frost on the drums while Ares of Aeternus joined on the bass.

In 1997 Gorgoroth released their last album on Malicious Rec. called Under The Sign Of Hell. This was also the last album Gorgoroth did with Grim behind the drums since in 1998 the black metal scene, especially Gorgoroth and Borknagar suffered a great loss when Grim died after drug abuse.

Late 1997 Gorgoroth shocked the black metal scene by signing on Nuclearblast, that following year they released the full-length album Destroyer. The line up for this album was Infernus on bass and guitar, Tormentor on guitar, Gaahl of Trelldom on vocal, Vrolok of Aeternus on drums, Ares on bass, T.Reaper of Malignant Eternal and Obtained Enslavement on vocal. Also contributing on this album was Pest on vocal, Frost on drums and Daimonion aka Ivar Bjørnson of Enslaved with some synthetic effects. In 1998 Gorgoroth also participated on the Darkthrone tribute Darkthrone Holy Darkthrone, Gorgoroth covered "Slottet I Det Fjerne", which also is an unlisted track on Destroyer. Much of the material on Destroyer was composed and/or recorded some years earlier, like track 3. which was recorded already back in 1994.

In 2000 the black metal scene was once again amazed by the release of Incipit Satan. Incipit Satan hit the store early 2000, the line-up for this album was Infernus guitar and vocal, Tormentor guitar, Gaahl vocal, Sjt. Erichsen of Molested on drums and King of Hell on bass. Early 2000 Sjt. Erichsen was replaced by a new drummer named Kvitrafn, he used to play drums for Det Hedenske Folk, with Abbath and Demonaz of Immortal.

In 2001 Gorgoroth participated on the The True Mayhem tribute Originators of the Northern Darkness. Gorgoroth covered the classic "Life Eternal". Late 2002 Tormentor decided to leave the band...
