Gina was born and raised in Queensland Australia. Both Gina’s parents were performers and musicians, so from an early age Gina was surrounded by music. In the 8o’s at the age of 14, Gina became a club DJ and later moved to Melbourne to further her ambition to be a singer/songwriter. By 1992 Gina became the lead singer in a band named Bass Culture, whom made the top 40 with ‘Love The Life’, sung and co-written by Gina. (Gina was signed to Mushroom records, who, at this time also had Kylie Minogue on their books.) In 1994 Gina moved to the UK to try and grab herself a record contract, eventually signing to Warner Records. While searching through demos, Gina came across ‘Just a Little Bit’ this later became the winner of the UK entry for Eurovision and Gina became the first foreign act to represent UK in the competition. Although she didn’t win ‘Ooh...Aah Just A Little Bit’ became the best selling Eurovision song in history. Reaching Number 1 in the UK and charting Highly including America, leading to a Grammy nomination for ‘Best Dance Recording’. Gina had further chart success with follow up single ‘I Belong To You’ and ‘Fresh!’ both making the top 10, ‘Ti Amo’, ‘Gimmie Some Love’ and ‘Every Time I Fall’ also charted in the UK. All these hits were taken from Gina’s debut album ‘Fresh!’ described as ‘The Dance Album of the decade’. However, in 1998 legal problems occurred at the record label that halted her career. In 2002 Gina received a payout from her record company, FX Music, after a 4 year court battle to break free from her contract. Meaning Gina was free to start work on new material.
