Finding Westerly was formed in 2000 when drummer Jeff Kummer left the band Balance to form The Early November with guitarist/singer Ace Enders. Balance's guitarist Steve Nakovich, singer Mike Lally, and Bass player Mike "weasel" Klemash recruited Mike's brother, Matt Lally, to play drums. They changed their name to Finding Westerly and recorded a 6-song album. Guitarist Drew Green joined the band shortly thereafter. Westerly and The Early November were playing shows at differnt small venues when TEN met a producer and rumors began circulating of them getting signed. The problem, apparently, was that they needed to replace bassist Sergio Anello with someone more skilled. So, Steve Nakovich left Westerly and joined TEN. Westerly disbanded. Mike Klemash also joined TEN as bass player and Steve played guitar. After getting signed to Drive-Thru Records, Steve was forced to leave the band and chose to reform Finding Westerly, and he did, with new members (Jim Sacco, Jim DeDomenico, Mike Klemash for a short time, Drew Green for a short time). The newer linup recorded a pair of 6-song CDs. After a few breakups and many lineup changes, Steve Nakovich (who has always been the principal songwriter and usually the singer) has assembeled the band once more, and the lineup as of February, 2004, consists of the Lally brothers, with Mike playing bass and singing backup, Matt on drums and newcomer Bill on lead guitar.
