Fantomas

Fantomas is the brainchild of Mike Patton (Faith No More, Mr Bungle). Fantomas started as a blitzkrieg of music in Mike's head. He had to find the musicians to realise this imaginary noise and he came up with quite a line up. Trevor Dunn (bass) grew up with Mike and has been a member of Mr Bungle with him for the last fifteen years. Buzz Osborne (guitar) is the driving force behind the legendary heavy-noise-rock band that is the Melvins (who have also had not just one but five records out on Ipecac in the last five months!). Dave Lombardo (drums) was the original drummer for Slayer and is now a member of Grip Inc. and is widely regarded as one of the greatest and most ferocious rock drummers ever.

A follow up to last year's debut Fantomas was going to have to be something special and indeed they have created a record so astounding it puts lesser mortals firmly in their place. Lovers of the first album will know that Fantomas have a strong cinematic influence and the band have taken this one stage further: rather than release a record of their own material, Fantomas made an album, The Director's Cut, of interpretations of some of the greatest film scores ever written. Drawing principally on the dark horror films of the 1960s and early 1970s, this album veers between deep rumbling scariness and full-on utter terror. Each track has been decimated then re-built in Fantomas' own imitable way to create a work so dramatic, beautiful, gory, terrifying and just downright loud that one can only use one adjective to sum it up - genius!
