Wer bei Eisregen an überfrierende Nässe auf der Straße denkt, liegt richtig. Jenes hinterhältige Naturphänomen bildet sich nämlich, wenn sich bei Minustemperaturen die Schleusen des Himmels öffnen, und statt Schnee Regen hernieder fällt, der auf dem Boden augenblicklich zu Gefrorenem mutiert. Dass es aber auch eine gleichnamige Band aus Deutschland gibt, ist nicht überall bekannt.
Die Combo gründet sich 1994 in Thüringen. Die Besetzung, die 1996 das erste Demo einspielt, besteht aus Michael "Blutkehle" Roth (Gesang), Totenmond-Schlagzeuger Michael "Bursche" Lenz (Gitarre), Yantit M. (Schlagzeug), -DF- (Keyboard) und Sebastian "Berg" Morbach (Bass). Beheimatet im weiten Feld zwischen Black Metal und Gothik, schafft es die Band bereits zu Beginn, durch Splatter-Lyrics und heftiges Gebratze auf sich aufmerksam zu machen. Tod, Gemetzel, Krankheit, Fäulnis und Gebeine sind geliebte Themen der Thüringer. Dabei geht's mitunter heftigst zur Sache, was natürlich noch mehr Aufmerksamkeit mit sich bringt. "Das Ende Des Weges" nennt sich das zehn Tracks umfassende zweite Demo, dass ebenfalls 1996 in halb-evil Auflage von 333 Exemplaren das Licht der Welt erblickt. Nach der EP mit dem zärtlichen Titel "Fleischhaus" unterschreiben die Jungs beim kleinen Label Last Episode. Mit einer Company im Rücken können Eisregen zum ersten Mal unter professionelleren Bedingungen ins Studio gehen. So spielen sie 1997 das Album "Zerfall" ein. Am Bass ersetzt K. Matthes den ausgestiegenen Berg Morbach. Komplett neu ist das aber nicht, denn nur sechs der neun Songs sind Neukompositionen, während "Ode An Den Niedergang", "Herzblut" und "Eispalast" von "Ende Des Weges" stammen. Auch wenn die Platte im Underground Aufsehen erregte, so hat sie dennoch einige Schwächen, was nicht zuletzt an der etwas eindimensionalen Produktion liegt.
Roth und co. fackeln nicht lange und begeben sich bald darauf an die Aufnahmen zu "Krebskolonie". Neu in die Band kommt eine Dame namens 2T aka Theresa Trenks. An der Violine erweitert sie den Sound um eine Facette, so dass die Mucke etwas aufgelockerter und nicht mehr ganz so hart klingt. An den Texten ändert sich indes wenig. Nach wie vor stehen Tod und Teufel bei den lyrischen Ergüssen Pate. Für die EP "Fleischfestival", mit drei alten und zwei neuen Stücken, ersetzt Lenz den ausgestiegenen Matthes für die Aufnahmen am Bass. Ersatz finden sie in einem Typen mit dem kryptischen Pseudonym 'Der Hölzer', während -DF- sich von Eisregen verabschiedet.
2000 erscheint "Leichenlager" und präsentiert die Band etwas gesetzter und, dank Theresas Spiel, melodiöser. Mittlerweile haben sich Eisregen aufgrund ihrer Live-Auftritte nicht nur in Thüringen eine eingeschworene Fangemeinde erspielt. Bei Gigs geht es regelmäßig ab wie Schmidts Katze. Für die sich an den Release anschließende Tour dreht sich das Besetzungskarussell wieder einmal. Fortan hat es sich ausgehölzt. Ex-Mitglied Morbach kehrt in den Schoß der Familie zurück, bzw. an seinen Viersaiter. Auf dieser Tour schneiden Eisregen den Gig auf dem Wave Gotik-Treffen mit, der unter dem Namen "Lager Leipzig" im Januar 2001 veröffentlicht wird. Erhältlich ist das Teil im Laden jedoch nur ab 18, da die darauf befindlichen Splatter-Szenen für die Kinder von Deutschland anscheinend unzumutbar sind.
Im Laufe des Jahres 2001 macht die Meldung die Runde, dass die Bundesprüfstelle für jugendgefährdende Schriften ein waches Auge auf die Band wirft, um eventuell zu verbietende Umtriebe zu verhindern. Der Release von "Farbenfinsternis" verschiebt sich, die Platte kommt aber dennoch im selben Jahr heraus. Aufgrund von finanziellen Schwierigkeiten - das Label bleibt die Studiokosten schuldig - steht der weitere Verlauf der Eisregen-Karriere erste einmal in den Sternen. Zwar steht mit "Wundwasser" schon ein Titel für eine neue Scheibe, bis zum Herbst 2004 muss sich die Fangemeinde jedoch noch gedulden. Deshalb hat Drummer Yantit auch etwas Zeit über und widmet sich seinem Nebenprojekt Ewigheim, bei dem er mit einem Herrn Allen B. Konstanz etwas mehr der Elektronik frönt. Das Resultat heißt "Mord Nicht Ohne Grund".
Die Beobachtung durch die Behörde bricht der Band dann fast das Genick. "Farbenfinsternis" und "Krebskolonie" wandern auf den Index und somit aus den Läden. Konzerte der Band darf nur noch besuchen, wer 18 Jahre oder älter ist, gebuchte Auftritte für Festival müssen Eisregen absagen, so dass deren Stimmung alles andere als positiv ist. Hierzu passt die Ankündigung, nach "Wundwassser" und dem anvisierten Nachfolgealbum "Menschenmaterial", Eisregen definitiv aufzulösen.
Zwischen all diese negativen Nachrichten schmuggelt sich Anfang 2004 jedoch auch eine positive. Das längst schon vergriffene "Zerfall" aus dem Jahr 1996 erfährt am 23.2. 2004 auf Massacre-Records einen Re-Release. Als Bonus obendrauf packen die Eisregeners noch "Das Ende Des Weges". Mit insgesamt über 75 Minuten Spielzeit ist das also eine ziemlich fette Sache.
