Eddie was born on 11 November 1944. His father was Octavio Peregrina from Pililla, Rizal and his mother Nena Villavicencio hailed from Cebu. As a young child started singing in amateur contests. When he was six years old, he won the singing contest of DZXL’s "Tita Betty’s Children Show." He was discovered on the national scene when he won the amateur singing contest of Tawag ng Tanghalan, a popular TV variety show of the 60s and 70s. Eddie also worked as a singer for five years with the Blinkers Band in Japan. Eddie's voice was quite distinctive for a man--being unusually high pitched. Years later his widow would recall in an interview that Eddie would have tip his feet backwards to hit the highest note, adding that "Nakakahilo daw kasi kapag masyadong mataas ang kanta." Among his popular songs were "Together Again," "Two Lovely Flowers," "Mardy" and "I Do Love You."
He would later become the first Philippine jukebox king in the late 1960s, a time when Filipinos thronged around jukeboxes to drop 20 centavos to listen to their favorite singing idols. His golden touch with the Filipino masses was solidified as a movie star he was partnered with the leading ladies of the 1970s, including Nora Aunor, and Espie Fabon. As a singer he was known for his theme song "Together Again." He was also known as the Jukebox King of the Philippines. His records are still available. Curiously his music became popular in other Southeast Asian countries, including Malaysia and Indonesia. As a TV star, he was the host of the popular The Eddie-Nora Show with the newly emergent Nora Aunor on Channel 9 in the late 1960s.
As a movie star he starred in Mardy, Memories of Our Dreams with Esperanza Fabon. He was also the leading man in Dito sa Aking Puso (1970)with Nora Aunor and with Vilma Santos in Mardy. He co-starred with his wife Lynn in Batul of Mactan in 1974. Many of his films were produced by JBC Productions, which invariably paired him with Vilma Santos, Edgar Mortiz, Esperanza Fabon, and directed by Bebong Osorio.
Wealth came easily to the young matinee idol and he was able to put his own businesses, including Edviper Records and the Pervil Photo Studio.

Eddie and Lyn had 2 daughters Edlyn who is now a Saipan based singer and Michelle, a lead vocalist in the local band scene. Eddie's Mustang car collided with a trailer truck in EDSA Shaw underpass in 1977. he died several weeks later on April 30, 1977 at the age of 32 at Polymedic Hospital due to internal hemorrhage. His early and tragic death shocked his millions of fans nationwide.
